This is the same fabric used by aerialists in the circus, but in aerial yoga our body weight is distributed between the fabric and the floor, allowing access to traditional yoga postures in new ways.

Aerial Straps

Ages: 15+

  • Mondays 6:30-8:00 pm

Aerial straps artists are known for having incredibly high levels of physical strength and active flexibility. For this reason, learning how to use straps technique and training methods can be very valuable for any aerialist. Having the right progressions and conditioning exercises can unlock possibilities that might have once seemed impossible. Transferring these abilities to other aerial disciplines can expand an artist's physical vocabulary in amazing ways.

This class will focus on the fundamental shapes of the body that straps artists use to build their choreography. These positions will serve as our inspiration and eventual goals as we follow accessible progressions to work towards each element. These shapes will include side flag (also known as "meat hook"), back flag, back planche, front lever, back balance and roll-up support. Compression and inversion strength development will be paired with stretches during drills that will be tailored to each student's needs. Once safe proficiency in foundation elements is achieved we will move on to how they can be used in motion with spin, orbit and dynamic transitions.

Level:  Beginner through Intermediate Straps - however must have previous aerial or gymnastics strength training and be able to invert repeatedly and do pull ups.

3-weeks: $79 (early bird $71 until 11/20)
